Jamie xx Reveals Full Details of New Album In Colour

Jamie xx has announced that his debut album, In Colour, will come out on 1st June via Young Turks.

The LP was hinted at earlier this week, which was followed by streams of a couple of new tracks, including Loud Places with fellow The xx member Romy Madley-Croft and Gosh. Listen to these tracks below.

As well as the two aforementioned tracks, In Colour includes the previously released songs Sleep Sound and Girl and a second collaboration with Romy. The third The xx member, Oliver Sims also contributes as does Atlanta rapper Young Thug and dancehall vocalist Popcaan on a cut called I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times). The album’s tracklist is set out at the foot of this post.

Speaking about his debut album, Jamie xx explains:

In Colour doesn’t feel like my first album because it’s the end of six years’ work. It’s about all of the music I’ve been inspired by in that time; the people I’ve met, the places I’ve been. I’ve gone from being a fan of electronic music, admiring great artists and producers, to feeling like I’m a part of their world. In Colour is about transition and transformation- going away, coming home, going away again, coming home again- and how that journey changes me every time. I love touring, and the places I’ve visited, but when I’m on my laptop I’m always thinking about home or music. I love being in a band, being a producer, being a DJ. This album is about all of that. In Colour isn’t the end of an era, it’s the start of what’s next.

Ekoplekz Unveils New Album Reflekzionz

Ekoplekz will drop Reflekzionz in May via Planet Mu.

Reflekzionz is experimental musician Nick Edwards’ third album, following Four Track Mind and the outstanding Unfidelity. Edwards also released the acclaimed Westerleigh Works EP on Perc Trax in 2012 and Entropik EP via Planet Mu earlier this month.

As its title implies, the album has a more wistful mood, moving away from the less-accessible elements of his best known work. According to Planet Mu, Ekoplekz has discarded “radiophonic sci-fi sounds, ancient drum machines and… post-punk bass or guitar” in favour of a more ’70s influenced, melody-driven sound.

The label says that Reflekzionz “focuses on invoking a blurry, saturated false-memory of the leftfield electronica that was the soundtrack to his life in the early to mid-1990s” while paying tribute to influences like AFX and kosmische musik pioneers Cluster. Clips can be heard on the Planet Mu website after the jump.

Watch Kevin Saunderson Search for Sounds at the Ford Factory

In late 2014 Detroit techno innovator Kevin Saunderson was invited to Ford’s Michigan assembly plant as part of a forthcoming documentary on the Motor City.

Last summer esteemed DJ and producer Matthew Dear was invited to do a similar activity by General Electric and his resulting track, Drop Science, was composed using the resulting found sounds emanating from its machines.

In the three-minute video recently posted to YouTube, Saunderson searches the factory floor for samples, recording many of the sounds made by the plant’s machinery. As he searches for inspiration, milling around the plant and listening for the sounds of the production process while people and machines manufacture cars, Saunderson observes, “It’s the same tone; it’s the same frequency…then to just hear that there – it was probably used for a totally different purpose – but to hear that, it connected. It was love at first sound.”

“It’s hard to say what it will be used for,” the producer said during his visit. “You take samples, put it in the machine, and you never know what vibes it might bring. It could bring nothing, it could bring something amazing.”

Saunderson is one of the most adept in the stable of Detroit techno pioneers, both recording some of the hardest and darkest music to come out of the Motor City and regularly achieving success in the mainstream dance charts as well with his productions for his slick techno-house act Inner City.

Carl Craig and Green Velvet Release Surprise LP, Unity

Carl Craig and Green Velvet have just released a new album called Unity via Relief Records.

There is not yet much information on the album, which dropped suddenly last night. Unity is introduced with a voiceover that states: “From the outer reaches of the galaxy come two captains from two worlds—worlds that hold traditions which shape the branial particles and molecules of the munchkins, who will and have come to dominate the not-so-distant future with multiple galaxies and intercosmic cosmo cities.”

The collaborative LP consists of seven tracks and on first listen they display a more spontaneous and playful side of the two artists.

Unity can be streamed in full via SoundCloud below where the tracklist is also set out..

Paula Temple, Planningtorock, Oni Ayhun and rRoxymore Announce Record for Noise Manifesto

Following last year’s Deathvox EP on R&S, Paula Temple has announced the next record on her Noise Manifesto label will be a collaboration between Temple (as Jaguar Woman), Oni Ayhun, Planningtorock (as Aquarian Jugs) and rRoxymore.

The resulting record, Decon Recon #1, is said to be the first in a series of experiments with traditional notions of authorship.

Temple, rRoxymore, Planningtorock and Oni Ayhun (AKA The Knife’s Olof Dreijer) made Decon Recon #1 by anonymously submitting parts (but not complete tracks) into an open archive and then reassembled them as a group. Noise Manifesto explains: “Deconstruction happens where artists each submit parts (but no full tracks), the reconstruction happens where the sounds are mixed together in different ways by the different artists of the collective.” Above is a composite photo of the four artists that was issued as part of the press release.

The record is out on vinyl and digital formats on 20th April and a limited edition run of 100 vinyl records signed by Berlin artist Isabel Rock will be directly available from Noise Manifesto’s Bandcamp.

Lux Rec Launches MRT Sublabel With New 12″s

Lux Rec’s new MRT division will release Benedikt Frey’s MRT001 on 11th May and Tuning Circuits’ MRT002 on 15th June.

The Zurich-based label was established in 2010 and has been steadily building momentum with records they describe as “acid fueled stompers, creepy low-fi numbers, melodies of pain and sorrow, noisy, analog pieces.”

MRT will be kicked off by MRT001, a three-track 12″ delivered by Love Pain Sunshine & Rain label boss Benedikt Frey while Tuning Circuits’ MRT002 consists of three cuts sourced from two rare cassettes recorded in 1990. Tuning Circuits is the alias of René Bakker, a Netherlands-based producer who originally released MRT002 cut No Compassion via Totally Freaked Out Power Electronics.

Lux Rec recently issued Helena Hauff’s Shatter Cone EP – more info on that here

Container Unveils New LP for Spectrum Spools

Container has revealed that he has a new album coming out via Spectrum Spools on 8th June.

As with Container’s (Ren Schofield) two previous albums for Spectrum Spools, this latest full-length is simply titled LP.

Schofield’s productions are already known for their intense, noise-influenced sound but the label warns that his upcoming full-length is his “most insane” and “explosive” release to date. The US producer began his career in the local noise scene before moving into DIY analogue-based techno. In 2011 his debut album, LP, was released on Spectrum Spools to much acclaim and in the time since his last record, Schofield has dropped EPs for Liberation Technologies and Morphine Records. Schofield’s latest effort promises to be “architecturally dextrous and club-minded” and “the most explosive offering in the Container oeuvre, capturing the raw and unhinged essence of the live Container experience while exploring new compositional and sonic limits.”

LP‘s lead track Eject can be streamed via the SoundCloud player below where the record’s tracklist is also laid out.
