Ryan Elliott Mixes Fabric 88

FABRIC88 ryan elliott

The 88th edition of the fabric series has been mixed by Ryan Elliott. Set for release 17th June, the 24-track mix features cuts by Robert Hood, Mike Parker, DVS1 and Fiedel.

The Berghain resident’s last official mix was 2014’s celebrated Panorama Bar 06 for Ostgut Ton. Describing fabric 88, Elliott says “fabric to me has always been about getting lost and locked into one continuous groove. It’s never been about standalone songs. That’s what I hope to achieve with this mix – a sum of parts that together create one whole feeling of rhythm.” The London club and label adds that it is a “groove-oriented mix.”

fabric 88 will be available on CD and digital formats. Stream clips of the mix here.

Ostgut Ton to Release Virginia LP

virginia

On 27th May, Ostgut Ton will drop Fierce For The Night, Virginia’s debut album.

Virginia has been strongly affiliated with the label for several years, having released a few EPs for Ostgut Ton as well as being a longstanding resident at Berghain/Panorama Bar, Ostgut Ton’s sister clubs. Fierce For The Night, her first full-length with the label, was co-produced by Dutch artists Martyn, Dexter and Steffi (whom Virginia worked with on her LP Yours & Mine), and features her vocals on all 11 tracks.

According to the label, the songs are centred around themes of love, lust and life. Virginia explains, “Love, longing and lightness are the superior motifs of my album. They’re universal human emotions, but also part of the classic house music narrative.” Taking influence from funk, disco, UK garage, drum & bass and house, it is “first and foremost an album about relationships” whose message is to “go out, enjoy yourself, loosen up and take what’s good for you.”

Set for release digitally and on vinyl, clips of album cuts Funkert and Raverd can be streamed below where the full tracklist is detailed.

Martyn will release a new EP titled Falling For You via Ostgut Ton on 16th October.

Falling For You is the Dutch producer’s first EP for the label, having previously put out 12″s on the Berlin imprint as well as for Brainfeeder and Ninja Tune. Martyn’s celebrated track Miniluv also appeared on Ben Klock’s Berghain 04 mix in 2014.

The label says that the three track release has a “club-meets-afterhour-meets-summer’s-day” mood with “luscious Garage-inspired rhythm[s]” and a “break-heavy vibe”.

No previews are available yet but Martyn’s Miniluv can be streamed via the SoundCloud player below where the tracklist for Falling For You is laid out.

UPDATE: Nick Höppner Announces Debut Album for Ostgut Ton, Stream Previews

7/3/2015 UPDATE: Ahead of the release of Folk, Nick Höppner’s debut LP on 30th March, previews of the album’s nine tracks are now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Original post: DJ, producer and former Ostgut Ton label manager, Nick Höppner will release his debut album, Folk, via Ostgut Ton on 30th March.

For two decades Höppner has being a prominent member of Berlin’s electronic music scene, starting his career in music journalism and DJing then moving to promotions before managing the revered Ostgut Ton label and becoming active in production. He became a resident of Panorama Bar, the sister to Berghain, and in 2012 stepped down as manager of Ostgut Ton, its sister label., a decision he has relished as it has allowed him more time to shop for records, DJ and work in the studio.

Höppner has released a number of 12″s and EPs, most of them coming out on Ostgut Ton, Folk will be his debut album. In an interview with Resident Advisor about the forthcoming album, Höppner talks about the inherent importance of house and techno to his and many others’ lives in Berlin and discusses the city’s (part) responsibility for the origins of both styles: “I decided to call my album Folk because I feel that we all work with a sonic vocabulary that was developed by a relatively small set of pioneers 20 or 30 years ago, that took their cues from disco which was influenced by R&B, funk, soul, etc., down to the most primal ritualism of tribal drums.” He explains. “This sort of traditionalism appears to have been passed on from generation to generation, with everyone adding their own perspective to it, thus making it more difficult to trace it all back to a source. One can argue that a lot of it is passed through records but I feel the most important ways of experiencing, enjoying and learning about the music happens inside a club. I also call this Folk as the blueprint of this music was laid out on what were originally cheap instruments from a dusty thrift store – in 1985, the TB-303 was the equivalent of a worn out acoustic guitar. Today this is reflected by the immense and accessible power of creation found in a $500 laptop running a crack of Reason or Ableton.”

Speaking about the direction of Folk, Höppner tells us it will be “more accessible and lighter” than previous releases with a concise objective. He has also experimented with using his own (heavily processed) voice on a couple of tracks.

Folk will arrive on double LP, CD and digital formats on 30th March 2015. A ten-year anniversary compilation for Ostgut Ton is expected for later this year as is a complimentary remix EP for Höppner’s album. The album’s artwork can be seen above while its complete tracklist is below.

Prosumer to mix Fabric 79

Prosumer will be at the helm for the latest edition of fabric’s ever-popular mix series, which is tipped for release on 8th December.

The highly regarded DJ, producer and former Panorama Bar resident is often applauded for being “a DJ’s DJ” and a look at the tracklist, which is overflowing with classic and contemporary tracks further proves this. Fabric 79 will provide audiences with another example of his educated but highly danceable style with music from Chez Damier, The Knife, Tuff City Kids, Earth People and Farley Jackmaster Funk’s A Black Man, A Black Man And Another Black Man all making the cut, as does the lead single from Prosumer and Murat Tepeli’s new label Potion. Prosumer, who recently relocated from Berlin to Edinburgh, said he approached fabric 79 as if he was prepping for a gig, though he recorded it at home. “The ducks outside my window were a hard crowd to read”, he adds.
