Ostgut Ton to Release Martyn’s Falling For You EP

Martyn will release a new EP titled Falling For You via Ostgut Ton on 16th October.

Falling For You is the Dutch producer’s first EP for the label, having previously put out 12″s on the Berlin imprint as well as for Brainfeeder and Ninja Tune. Martyn’s celebrated track Miniluv also appeared on Ben Klock’s Berghain 04 mix in 2014.

The label says that the three track release has a “club-meets-afterhour-meets-summer’s-day” mood with “luscious Garage-inspired rhythm[s]” and a “break-heavy vibe”.

No previews are available yet but Martyn’s Miniluv can be streamed via the SoundCloud player below where the tracklist for Falling For You is laid out.

King Midas Sound Reveal New Collaborative LP Series

After a six-year hiatus, King Midas Sound – composed of original trio Kevin Martin (aka The Bug), Rodger Robinson and Kiki Hitomi – have reunited and announced their work on a four-part collaborative album series.

The critically acclaimed Waiting For You, the group’s last album dropped on Hyperdub in 2009 while Ninja Tune will issue the first LP of the new series, Edition 1.

The long-running label states that Martin, following his 2014 Angels & Devils album as The Bug, “wanted to create a record focused on kaleidoscopic sonic beauty, bathed in the bluest emotional lyricism.” Edition 1 was made using guitar tracks, samples and unreleased material from Fennesz’s archive.

Helena Hauff to Release Discreet Desires

Helena Hauff will release her first full-length album, Discreet Desires, on 4th September via Actress’ label Werkdiscs.

A resident at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club, Hauff’s discography has been expanding since she released her debut EP Actio Reactio for Werkdiscs two years ago. 12″s for labels such as PAN, Lux Rec and Panzerkreuz Records and a cassette tape for Handmade Birds have followed; topped off with her return to Werkdiscs in March with Lex Tertiaread more on that here.

Discreet Desires, which was recorded in her bedroom studio in Hamburg, is described as “the embodiment of Helena’s deep-seated beliefs about music as a radical force and unifying movement.” Explaining her love of hardware production equipment, Hauff says, “I have the feeling it’s more one-to-one – you do something and then the machine reacts. The machine has its own mind too, so it gives something back.”

Mix Of The Week: Ron Morelli

L.I.E.S. label boss Ron Morelli describes his latest mix for Solid Steel, Ninja Tune’s long running radio show, as  “Straight ahead high-octane beating Techno” and a tracklist that includes cuts from Regis, Function, Blake Baxter, Sleeparchive and a punishing Perc remix of a Paula Temple track proves his assertion. The New York based imprint Long Island Electrical Systems will be celebrating their 5 year anniversary this year as they continue to release a rich catalogue of techno and house tracks from artists such Delroy Edwards, Legowelt, Gavin Russom and Morelli’s own project Two Dogs In A House.

Actress To Mix Next DJ-Kicks

Actress has mixed the 49th installment of !K7’s DJ-Kicks series, which is set to land on 4th May.

The hour long mix from the acclaimed DJ and producer includes cuts from artists such as John Beltran, Mark Fell, experimental techno heavyweights Autechre, STL and Shxcxchcxsh as well as an exclusive track from Actress himself. The full tracklist is detailed below.

After releasing four highly acclaimed albums (Hazyville, Splazsh, R.I.P. and Ghettoville)DJ-Kicks 49 will be Actress’ (Darren Cunningham) first commercial mix and in the press release he explains his process, “When I’m selecting music I’m not always thinking about the music alone, I’m thinking about the names of the artists, tracks, and labels, and what they mean to me. I often base my tracklisting purely on how well the track titles work together in a poetic sense. I’ve tried to keep space between tracks, allowing them to speak. I tried not to force BPM shifts and to let the programming remain choppy and quick.”  In keeping with the DJ-Kicks series tradition, Actress has also included an exclusive track in the mix (Bird Matrix). He says, “My studio was going through a transition, so I was testing all the equipment, and that was one of the first tunes that came out of those experiments.”

The Werkdiscs label, that Actress runs, recently announced a new EP from Helena Hauff – more about that here.

Emika Departs Ninja Tune to Launch Record Label

The producer, sound designer and singer Emika has parted ways with Ninja Tune to establish her own label, named Emika Records. According to the press release, the label will be inaugurated by a “series of club 12″s, a piano LP and her third album.” Her third full-length follows 2013’s well-received DVA and her self-titled effort from 2011. Specific details, including release dates, have yet to be revealed but it will be the platform she uses to release all of her forthcoming material. Emika’s decision to leave Ninja Tune is seen by some as a smart move given their recent direction.

Emika recently contributed vocals to Seduction, a cut from Marcel Dettmann’s second album II. In May the track received a release on 12″, which can be streamed below, with remixes coming from Deuce (Shed’s rarely spotted alias), Anthony Parasole and Ryan Elliott.
